Ram wants you to know that the RHO is NOT the TRX replacement

The 2025 Ram 1500 RHO offers TRX off-road capability in a more lightweight and cost-effective package, albeit with a notable decrease in power. While this may attract many buyers, the unveiling of the RHO after the Hellcat-powered TRX inevitably raises the question among enthusiasts (ourselves included): "Does this signal the end of Ram's venture into extreme performance?" Bob Broderdorf, Ram's Global Operations Officer, addressed this query during the RHO's launch, asserting that the new truck is not intended as a direct replacement for the TRX.Broderdorf acknowledged the RHO's lower power output and clarified that it's not positioned as a complete successor to the TRX. He emphasized Ram's internal capabilities and experience in crafting high-performance vehicles like the TRX. However, he refrained from confirming whether a more radical successor to the TRX is in development. Nevertheless, the absence of confirmation suggests that Ram may indeed be exploring options behind the scenes. Given the market demand for top-tier halo trucks exemplified by models like the F-150 Raptor R and the renowned TRX, it's logical to assume that Ram is considering future iterations. The potential to extract more performance from the Hurricane straight-six engine is promising. Doug Killian, Chief Vehicle Synthesis Manager, noted that the RHO's engine is fundamentally similar to other high-output Ram 1500 models, indicating the feasibility of enhancing power through increased boost, improved intercooling, and potential upgrades to internal components. While such enhancements may incur additional costs for certification, the precedent set by the successful sales of the TRX suggests that consumers are willing to invest in high-performance offerings. Furthermore, the modified engine could potentially find application in other forthcoming models, such as a higher-output Charger Sixpack or a new iteration of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. While it's common to temper expectations, the circumstances surrounding the RHO and Ram's capabilities suggest that the development of a successor to the TRX is indeed a plausible endeavor.
