Lamborghini is delving deeper into the realm of electrification with the introduction of the Urus SE, a plug-in hybrid variant of its popular SUV. Revealed at the 2024 Beijing auto show, this battery-electric model boasts nearly 800 horsepower along with a host of aesthetic and technological enhancements both inside and out. While the Urus SE isn't the initial plug-in hybrid offering from Lamborghini— that distinction belongs to the 1,001-horsepower Revuelto—it holds significant importance, given the Urus's status as the brand's top-selling model by a considerable margin. Following a design ethos akin to the Revuelto, Lamborghini emphasizes that electrification serves as a means to provide enthusiasts with heightened performance. Rest assured, the core of the Urus SE remains its V8 engine—a reworked iteration of the familiar 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged eight-cylinder engine that has powered the Urus from its inception. Paired with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission and connected to a 25.9-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack nestled beneath the trunk floor, the drivetrain generates a combined output of 788 horsepower and 699 pound-feet of torque. This configuration enables the Urus SE to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.4 seconds, reach a top speed of 194 mph, and travel up to 37 miles solely on electric power. Despite the added weight of electrification, Lamborghini asserts that the Urus SE achieves a superior power-to-weight ratio compared to the existing Urus S. This feat is accomplished through innovations such as an electric torque vectoring system and a limited-slip rear differential, enhancing performance characteristics like "on-demand oversteering." Visually distinguishing itself from other Urus variants, the SE showcases several design revisions, including sleeker headlights featuring matrix LED technology, a redesigned grille, and a revamped hood. At the rear, the taillights are now connected by a mesh-like trim reminiscent of the iconic Gallardo, marking a nod to Lamborghini's rich heritage. Inside the cabin, a 12.3-inch touchscreen hosts the latest iteration of Lamborghini's infotainment system, complemented by hybrid-specific menus. The driver is greeted by a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, alongside the signature "tamburo" switches on the center console, offering a selection of ten driving modes, including Strada, Sport, Corsa, and hybrid-exclusive options like EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance, and Recharge—aiming to optimize efficiency in hybrid mode.
